Solomon Crossings

Solomon Crossings

Solomon order’s mist-crossing protocols. Grounded in world-bible Solomon entry: Kapnobatai-descended arcane order, three currents (Lumina Revelation, Tenebra Necessary Shadow, Aequitas Restraint), sanctuaries at Crypt of the Ancients / Tower of the Stars / Forest of Whispers — all outside the mists.

Why Solomon crossings exist

The Solomon order’s charter is preservation of Anima. The Mists of Barovia are one of the most significant Anima-disruptions in the modern age. The 3412 containment was Solomon-adjacent work — Aequitas Weighers who served as neutral judges at the Ashwain signing carried the boundary-rite’s original geometry. The order considers the aftermath its ongoing responsibility. No permanent presence inside; operatives cross only for specific purposes on specific authority.

How Solomons cross

Lumina Crossing. Scholar seeking to observe petitions a Veiled Illuminator for a crossing warrant (Solomon Farsi + geometric annotation the boundary recognizes as ‘passage for witnessing, not intervention’). 8-hour Kapnobatai smoke-rite at the boundary — controlled dream-state, mists admit as observer rather than participant. Most common category: perhaps four to six Lumina observers cross each of the last fifty years.

Tenebra Crossing. Surgical work — ritual intervention at blood/death/shadow level. Same Kapnobatai boundary-rite, anchored with a Tenebra current object (vessel of operative’s own blood + graveyard earth from Crypt of the Ancients). Allows fuller ritual load. Rarer: one or two per year. Last known Tenebra intervention: 3457, Tenebra Handler ended a vampiric infiltration at a Radiant Sun Cathedral in western Bulghar highlands before it could spread. Halvek was told six months after by Wereraven Express.

Aequitas Crossing. Judicial authority invoked — formal audit of Solomonic-adjacent situation. Aequitas signet carries judicial passage; boundary admits without smoke-rite. Rarest: three or four in last fifty years. Last visit was 3448 — Weigher Ilir Malik came to First Light to audit the 3412 containment ritual. Halvek met with him privately for two days. Halvek has not spoken of that meeting since.

What Solomons will and will not do inside Barovia

Will: observe (Lumina), intervene surgically on Solomonic-domain matters (Tenebra: vampire-blood, shadow-anchored evils, death-rite corruption), audit Concord-derivative rituals (Aequitas). Recognize Cathedral authority within parish jurisdiction. Recognize the Purifier’s Seal and Silver Dawn ritual bindings. Answer direct questions honestly if the party’s authority to ask is clear.

Will not: fight Strahd (party’s job; the Concord that made the mists is the Concord the party is completing). Carry mail across mists as a favor. Provide party with Solomon signets or crossing warrants. Take Ember Court cases at Concord tribunal level (regional Bulghar jurisdiction only). Reveal reports back to their currents.

Party contact opportunities in the arc

Ch 12 (optional). Lumina observer Yiannis Draxos quietly resident in Khazan, staying at Mistress Bela’s inn under a Bulghar traveler’s identity. Recording Yordan’s isolation as part of a decades-long Lumina project on containment psychology. DC 15 Insight over evening conversation identifies him as too well-read for a rural pilgrim. Won’t intervene in the tower ascent; will pray for the party at his private morning office.

Ch 13.5 (optional). Tenebra Bearer left a small wax-sealed jar at the Barrow entrance three years ago (Tenebra-container marker: Solomon awareness of the Fractured Equilibrium’s binding + decision not to interfere). Party finds it half-buried near the northern hearth-stone. DC 15 Arcana identifies the seal; DC 17 Solomon Farsi reads its short note: ‘Left standing. — Handler, Tower of the Stars, 3459.’

Ch 16 (optional Witness Category slot). Aequitas Weigher may arrive as unsolicited Witness to the Rite’s completion. Design option for Ch 16 spec — fills the Solomonic Witness Category slot as one of six required Witnesses.

Why Solomons are not a solution

Halvek has been tempted to seek Solomonic help for fifty years and has resisted. The Solomons will not act at the scale the party needs — they audit, they do not liberate. Their interventions are surgical and unaccountable. The 3412 containment was Solomon-adjacent work; the order does not consider it an error, they consider it the correct call for the world outside the mists. The party cannot expect them to consider it undo-able except through Concord-completion (the party’s own work).

The Solomons are texture, not cavalry. The party’s authority to complete the Rite of Completed Witness comes from being the Concord’s inheritors, not from Solomon sponsorship.
