Rite of Severed Wolf

Cathedral ritual for severing lycanthropy in an anchor-and-tie framework consistent with the CT curse-cure global rule. Antonio’s locked spec, 2026-08-24. Establishes the standard for Tomáš and Kellen from Ch 11 forward and any future lycanthropy sever attempts.

Framework

Anchor: the bite (the moment and the site of infection).

Moon Tie: Umbra (the moon whose ferocity Ch 11’s pack is fed by).

Opposing Phase: Full Luna (Luna’s fullness opposes Umbra’s dominance; the sever must happen at the next Full Luna, ~30 days from readiness).

Three-stage severing challenge

Stage 1 — Invocation. DC 14 Religion or Medicine. Requires patient consent + guardian consent. Cleric or Cathedral healer conducts.

Stage 2 — Confrontation. DC 14 Wis save FROM THE PATIENT. This is the moment the patient faces the wolf and refuses it. Failure = the wolf holds; retry at the next Full Luna. Not a fail-forever; a defer.

Stage 3 — Severing. DC 15 Religion by Sister Anya + DC 13 Nature by Nyvoria. Silvered instrument required. Both concelebrants roll; both must succeed.

Modifiers

Exorcism Kit grants advantage on Stages 1 and 3.

Ch 11 Wards of Recognition, if renewed for the patient beforehand, grant +1 to Stage 2’s Wis save.

A pack ally physically present (e.g. Zuleika for an Old Night bite) grants advantage to Stage 2.

Setting and duration

The Rite must be performed at First Light, in monitored isolation. Total window: from readiness through the next Full Luna = ~30 days on the A’Erth calendar. Preparation: Cathedral clergy assemble the exorcism kit, secure the silvered instrument, coordinate with Nyvoria (Cathedral druid or equivalent).

Special cases

Tomáš Dragan (Ch 11). Recently bitten, has not transformed. Standard Rite as spec’d. Prognosis very good with Cathedral early treatment.

Kellen (Ch 11). Established transformation (~1 year). Standard Rite likely insufficient. TBD at Cathedral debrief — Sister Anya may require: extended pre-Rite conditioning (30-60 days), silvered surgical instrument (not just symbolic), and additional concelebrant. Or Kellen may not be curable and the Cathedral must offer alternative care (managed transformation, sanctuary, education).
