Sacred Resonance (test spec)
Sacred Resonance
Attunement test for Silver Dawn / Concord relics — most notably the Holy Symbol of Ravenkind at Ch 11 and thereafter. Antonio’s locked spec, 2026-08-24.
The test
DC 14 Charisma-based test. Choose one of the following at the GM’s call: Persuasion, Religion, or flat CHA. Add proficiency where the chosen approach carries it.
+1 from Moon research grant #2 (‘The Stolen Relic’).
Tiered results
20+ Sacred Attunement. Immediate attunement to the relic. Advantage on Turn Undead while wielding it. Bonus action to sense undead within 60 ft (usable while attuned).
14-19 Recognized Bearer. Short-rest attunement.
10-13 Partial Resonance. Long-rest attunement.
<10 Silent Relic. Another bearer must test, or the current bearer performs in-fiction penance before retry (a night’s vigil, restoration of a personal offense, or a small pilgrimage — GM’s call in narrative).
Rules
Failure never prevents relic recovery. The Symbol (or Chaplet, or other Concord relic) still comes home with the party. Sacred Resonance affects attunement and bearer recognition, not physical custody.
Retested when: bearer changes; Cathedral custody presentation; Chaplet-Symbol proximity (bringing them together for the Rite of Completed Witness triggers a fresh resonance).
Application notes
First test: Ch 11 aftermath at First Light when the Holy Symbol of Ravenkind is presented to the Cathedral for examination. Bearer determined by party choice.
Chaplet awakening (Ch 16): the Dormant Quiet Word Chaplet’s twelve moonstone beads brighten one at a time as the Rite is spoken. This is not a Sacred Resonance test — it is the Rite’s own mechanic. But Chaplet-Symbol proximity in Halvek’s hands re-triggers a Sacred Resonance test on the Symbol’s bearer, which the party can use to shift attunement between PCs before the assault on Strahd.
